French White Wines
*2013 Domaine Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs-Canet. Tanzer 91 Points. Pale straw-yellow. Musky aromas of pear, peach, lees and menthol. Plump, spicy and sweet if a bit soft and lacking in lift in the early going. A distinctly round style of Puligny, with dominant flavors of stone fruits and nut oils. This dry, seamless wine offers early appeal but it also firmed up with air, showing more energy and smoky minerality.
*2014 Domaine Christian Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur. Tanzer 93+ Points. Aromas of lemon, lime and crushed rock show an element of reduction. Boasts terrific intensity and texture to its concentrated flavors of citrus peel, peppery spices and menthol. Another very saline 2014 with superb breadth and length, but more closed today than the Vaudésir. This wine is ultimately more complex but will require longer aging.

2013 Napa Cabernets
- 2013 Corley Cabernet Sauvingnon; Wonderful aromas of dark blackberry, cassis, hints of vanilla, and undertones of sweet caramel. On the palate, the wine is bold upon entry, with characteristically robust tannins. The mid-palate is full and the finish is long and lingering.
- 2013 Justin Isosceles Reserve; Deep garnet/magenta, with lush aromas of vanilla, chocolate, dark cherries, warm baking spices and a touch of anise; beautiful, rich and concentrated on the palate, with powerful fruit, solid tannins, and undercurrents of smoke and earth. Everything works together in perfect synergy. Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot.
- 2013 Stags Leap Cabernet; 93 Points; This is a blockbuster of a wine, powerfully built grape by grape, with just a handful of Merlot. Cherry vanilla, leathery cedar and juicy plum combine around a lush, voluptuous mouthfeel of tension and tannin. Incredibly satisfying, it shows a length of spicy clove on the finish that appears to go on for days. This is a beauty too hard to sock away, though it should do well in the cellar another decade or two.

Fine Cabernets
- 2001 Far Niente Cabernet;A strong performance by Far Niente’s 2001 revealed a wine with lots of incense, black currant, sweet cherry, plum sauce and loamy soil notes along with a hint of smoky oak. The sweet, broad, expansive mouthfeel, full-bodied texture, impressive purity and long finish suggest this Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon has hit its peak where it should remain for another 10-15+ years.
- 2008 Caymus Cabernet; This extraordinary wine possesses an enormous wealth of black cherry, blueberry, cassis and espresso flavors, wrapped in fine, well-toasted oak. Has that rare quality of elegance, in which all the parts work together in harmony. Thoroughly dry, it's marked by a firm, astringent tannic structure now, but is a certain cellar candidate.

Exceptional White Wines
- 2011 Keller Hubacker Riesling; RP 92 points; Pear, zesty lime and pineapple close to the core ally themselves to crystalline, alkaline and stony notes in Keller's 2011 Dalsheimer Hubacker Riesling Grosses Gewachs, leading to a juicy palate impression and finish that positively shimmer. Coriander seed, grapefruit rind, peach kernel, nut oils and quinine add piquant pungency to this impressively persistent performance that should be worth following for at least a decade.
- 2010 Les Combettes Puligny Montrachet; from Burgundy France. 94 Points; Mixed citrus, green apple, white peach, a hint of mango, and loads of stoney saline minerality. Really impressive set of 2010 Puligny 1ers from Sauzet.
- 2015 Guigal Condrieu La Doriane; RP 99 points: Easily one of the greatest Condrieu La Doriane. A wine that needs to be tasted to be believed, it possesses a huge nose of toasted brioche, apricot, flower oil. Unctuous, full-bodied, massively rich, yet also elegant and graceful, with beautiful freshness, enjoy this tour de force over the coming 5-6 years.

Excellent Sparkling Wines
- 2004 J. Schram North Coast Sparkling Wine; This limited release is the premier Chardonnay based Brut sparkling wine. J. Schram is handcrafted using select cool climate North Coast vineyards, barrel fermentation and six years of aging in historic hillside caves.
- Veuve Cliquot Brut; Pale gold champagne. Refined nose showing a harmonious fusion of white-fleshed fruits, mirabelle flesh and floral notes. The same array of aromas recurs on the palate, emphasised by fine texture and pronounced freshness, all of which is precise and persistent. A great classic.
- Krug Grand Cuvee Brut Champagne; 97 Points; Krug's NV Grand Cuvée 164 Edition is a total knockout. Based on the 2008 vintage, the 164th Edition shows all the crystalline tension and energy that is such a signature of the year. The flavors are brisk, delineated and pulsing with energy, while the more oxidative notes that are such a signature of Krug Champagnes are not especially evident. A wine of total pedigree and class, the 164 reminds me of some of the great Grand Cuvées of the 1960s and 1970s. No Champagne lover will want to be without this spectacular, captivating wine.
